UPDATE:

Well as we had hoped Billie Jean is no longer a Maiden as she won her first 2 starts.

Billie Jean right from the start of her preparation always new that she was a race horse, and was a natural at the whole racing caper, at her first race meeting she was like a old pro. Jockey Sam Dunn was wrapped with ridding her and had booked her to ride the whole season at the Caramut Trial Day the first event of the season. After her second start and second win, Sam said "wow" I still haven't pulled the whip on her yet and there is plenty left in her tank! We were wrapped to have such a glowing report back from Sam. But unfortunately a few days after her second start she had swelling in both knees, after x-raying she was diagnosed with carpitis. So that bought her season to an abrupt end. Some good news there though she has no long term damage and will be back next season 2009. Let hope next season she wont have to race against Candy in every race.

Bandora Sprint Quarter Horses would like to Welcome a FIRST!

We NOW have a Thoroughbred on our team!

Elbarto!

As luck would have it this very classy gelding has come to us by chance!

His TB name is "Classy Run" which is him to a T!

Bart has been re-named by our youngest son Tanna to

"ELBARTO"

If it wasn't for Tanna we wouldn't have taken him.

Thanks to the great TB trainer Michael O'Leary, he had offered Bart to us. As Michael is a great guide of what a horse is capable of he knew Bart had the ability to be a

GREAT SPRINT HORSE!

He was absolutely right!

Bart came to us after he had been turned out for awhile and it took us a bit of time to get him conditioned for sprint racing.

Bart had 12 starts on the TB tracks for 4 wins and 3 thirds racing up to 1200 mtrs, so he was no slouch!

Bart's first race for us was a 400 mtr race at Caramut, where he came up against, the sprint racing experts such as

Black Betty, Fortune Cookie, Marbenjack & Bymyside!

With the "Seasons Best Jockey" "Lenny Andrews" aboard Bart, we had great confidence in Lenny's ability to give him all chances of showing us what Bart's potential was for the remainder of the season.

He didn't let us down!

He was a very close 5th in a blanket finish!

We were very excited after that we knew with Adrian's skill of teaching him more about the game of sprint racing, we knew he had the ability of matching it with the best!

Panmure Cup 500mtrs was his next start, we had quiet hopes for Bart this day! But really he was still an unknown for what he was capable of. Watching Lenny taking him to the starting gates was a concern as Bart speed down there like a man possessed! Lenny said later he really was a handful. Once again the race field was filled with only the best horses, Price Of Love (racing in TB with a very high earnings & a huge force on the sprint racing track) she had won her last start at Caramut very easily, Rockafella, Blurr, Indy Star & Black Betty all are horses that could be contenders at the line.

As the race started it was very hard to tell who was going with the leading horse Price Of Love, soon enough the race caller called

"and here comes Elbarto storming home" it was the Price Of Love till the very last stride where Elbarto took it by a nose!

Lenny rode him to the line with everything he had.

Well done Lenny!

What a awesome race!

Next was the "Birchip Cup" 450 mtrs, we once again was unsure if he could get wound up at this distance, so we entered the race with a test for him in mind. The heat at Birchip was very intense, but the crowd and the atmosphere was just as intense with excitement!

The track looked perfect and the venue was a credit to the organisers! The field once again had its professionals and proven winners at this distance, such as Black Betty, Indy Star, Blurr, Saint Patrick's Day & The Axeman. Once again it was the pro of the field "Black Betty" to be out of the gates first and close behind her was Elbarto. Black Betty lead all the way, and to my relief to hear the caller say "and here come Elbarto making a hard run home"

and just before the line he stole the lead from Black Betty and

he won the race of the day! Once again Lenny's ride was flawless and his power of being a great whip jockey continues.

Once again the race was just an awesome one to watch,
which close racing always is!

What's next for Elbarto is the " Mortlake Cup" 500mtrs!

29th of March 2008.

If you can get there its going to be an outstanding meeting with the American's attending and I'm sure the racing will be again
very exciting!

Adam said "this filly has speed to burn"!

Here she placed 2nd in her maiden race.

Ashame she jumped out her yard the week before her first race, injuring her front near side leg on the gate, and with a very short race season she wasn't able to show her full ability through soreness!

This season we are hoping for a completely different season with more races and we are better set up with boxes and at long last our own set of training gates so we can have our horses better prepared than ever this season!

UPDATE!

This season 2008, Tess was really working a treat for Adrian and Cody. Cody took shares in Tess this season so he was spending a lot of time lunging and preparing her.

At the Caramut trial day Alan Murnane the president of the VRQHA

said Tess had the fastest trail of the day. She showed awesome speed and the Jockey Sam Dunn was so impressed she booked in to ride her for the whole season.

Unfortunately due to hard tracks (due to the on going drought) Tess fractured her coffin bone and has since retried to the broodmare paddock. It was very disappointing as you can see here in the above photo she was in awesome race condition and showed great speed!

This photo was taken of Candy at the Terang Sprint Races.

Candy came 2nd to Billie Jean in the 3 year old race.

Jockey Lenny Andrews rode her and the 2 improved by 4 lengths from the race before. Then the pair went on to win their next start 2 weeks later.

Adrian and Cody are in the process of setting her for the Mortlake Sprint Races where there will be a 3 year olds race that she will be entered in.

Impressive Duke

Impressive Duke

Duke has been a great race horse for us here at Bandora, a horse with a huge heart he always surprised us and never let us down.

For example this day at Port Arlington he won in the last stride after running down Strike it Six in an awesome race. Duke could always find a little more when the jockey pulled the stick! Good ride Lenny!

The above photo is Duke's Maiden race at Gympie in Queensland, he placed 2nd, what a awesome effort to travel all the way back to Springton SA, to then go back to Mt Isa in the following week with great close friends of ours Leanne and Corey Starkey from Allendale North SA to run in the 1st Mailman Express and get 2nd with a great time of 10.893 seconds. Corey rode him excellent in the Mailman Express after all he knew Duke well from having rode him quiet a few times in the past. Even in a last minute decision at a rodeo one day he rode Duke in the mens feature barrel race with all his bull fighting gear on including footy boots and had the fastest time.

Originaly he was only ever Lisa's barrel horse, which we tried as a race horse turned out he was more of a natural at the being a race horse, but has since retired back to barrel racing in hope that he may now enjoy barrel racing as much as he enjoyed racing.

What's Happen at Bandora?

Today is Sunday the 18th of November 2007, we have been very busy working here at Bandora there is always something that needs to be done. As usual.

Adrian and Cody have had Tess, Candy & Billie Jean in work preparing them for the up and coming race season to start in the new year.

Pictured here is Adrian on Tess (Watchmetale). We like to work the race horses with another calm horse for many reasons. Such as to learn how to compete and to get used of other horses moving up behind them and working pass them. We don't like any surprises on race day.

Above is Cody on Sk8erBoi keeping him in work for the up and coming rodeo season.

Below is Adrian working Candy. He is teaching her to round up and drive from behind, also to have someone ride over her.

Also today we have branded 6 young ones with our fitting stud brand of

"XLR8"
short for accelerate!
Bred & Branded for SPEED!

They all handled that very well.

We have been busy handling the foals, we like to be able to lead, pick up their feet and drench them without any problems. So we handle them consistently to ensure this is never a problem.

Today is Sunday 30th of September 2007, We have had 1 1/2" of rain since Thursday and it is still raining. Umm it's very wet, we are unable to drive in most of our paddocks of suffer the consequences of being bogged. But our water tanks are full and the grass is still grown although a bit slower because we haven't seen allot of sunshine. But everything is going OK.

Now for what is happens in the horses front!

At the moment Adrian is very busy with a Thoroughbred breaker from Hamilton one of three from France and Dennis Menzel. It's coming along very nice. Adrian still has a big long list of breakers waiting! Also he still has his very busy farriers business.

Also Adrian is working a few of our horses Acatattack (Tomas) a chestnut gelding 2003, he will be starting the barrel pattern to go into our barrel horse team after Adrian has put a few finer points on his extensive foundation. Tomas will be traveling to all the rodeo's this season to prepare him for the future.

Adrian is working the 2 maiden filly's that will race early 2008, BarMaid Billie (stable name Billie Jean) and Destiny Fulfilled (Candy).

Every so often he brings them in from the 100 acre back paddock works them, putting them through their paces and sometimes through Adrian's pre-starting gates chute. It's all in the pre-training and his foundation to help them handle what is coming ahead with their racing careers. They are going great working keen and keeping fresh.

Today Billie Jean got a special treat with getting in the cattle and drafting of 2 to move into another paddock. Something she has never done before, Adrian makes no excuses for horses they must be versatile and do what ever is needed of them.

As for Impressive Duke he is having a long rest with having a set back with a severe reaction to an attack on his immune system. He will rest until a clear bill for health from our vet.

I am trying to keeping Sk8erBoi 2002 gelding in work not quiet fit though, I don't want to have him peak way before the rodeo's start. As we know they would have started but with the Equine Influenza who knows when we will get to start our season! But be sure of one thing we are chomping at the bit!

We have our first foal a lovely natured chestnut colt out of Merrie, he is been handled every day to make sure he accepts all the the contact required to keep him healthy and maintained. He's a real sweetie.

We have also weaning awhile ago Ala Gator from Barracoota, he is being handled and rugged, hoping his winter coat will come out soon. Then we will be taking photo's of him to sell or he may have a place in the Race Team, ya never know!

I guess the rest of the time is taken up with the usual stud maintenance and breeding duties.

Unfortunately due to hard tracks (due to the on going drought) Tess fractured her coffin bone and has since retried to the broodmare paddock. It was very disappointing as you can see here in the above photo she was in awesome race condition and showed great speed!
